Are work-from-home jobs legit?

How can I tell if the offer is not legit:

There are many scammers who create fake job postings to steal your personal information and financial assets. These people may pose as a company or reputable person. They get you to trust them before they take advantage of the opportunity for theft that comes from working remotely. Work From Home Jobs have become increasingly popular recently which means there is more risk involved when dealing with unfamiliar contractors. Be careful about where exactly this type of advertising appears on social media sites.

  • If the job seems too good to be true… it probably is.  If you are offered a high-paying job that you know you are not qualified for – run! More times than not these are scammers just trying to get your personal information.
  • You have to pay upfront costs.  This should be a dead giveaway, but 1,000’s of people fall for this type of scam every year. If they are asking you to send in X amount of dollars to process paperwork or to find work in your area it is a scam. Since when do we pay to have a job?
  • There are warnings posted online. While the scammers are a bad byproduct of the internet age, we have a way to check up on them. If you look for information online and there is little to nothing to be found – it’s probably a scam. If you find the company and there are others warning about working with the company – listen to them!
