Home Maintenance

Lastly, make sure to do some fall maintenance around your house. This is the time of year when you should check your gutters, clean out your fireplace, and get your furnace serviced. By taking care of these things now, you’ll be prepared for the colder months ahead.

Gutters

One of the most important things you can do to prepare your home for fall is to clean your gutters. Gutters play a crucial role in keeping your home safe from water damage. During the fall months, leaves and debris can clog up your gutters, which can lead to leaking and even structural damage.

That’s why it’s important to clean your gutters regularly throughout the fall season. You can either do it yourself or hire a professional gutter cleaning service. Either way, make sure to get it done before the weather turns cold and icy.

By cleaning your gutters, you’ll be preventing costly water damage and ensuring that your home is ready for fall.

Clean your Furnace/Fireplace

Another important fall maintenance task is servicing your furnace. This is something that should be done at least once a year, and fall is the perfect time to do it. By getting your furnace serviced, you’ll be prolonging its lifespan and ensuring that it’s running efficiently.

If you haven’t already, now is also a good time to clean out your fireplace. This will help prevent any fires from happening and keep your home safe.

Rake the Leaves

Don’t forget to rake up all the leaves around your home. This is such an important part of fall yard care. Not only does it make your yard look tidy, but it also prevents mold and mildew from growing.

Disposing of the Leaves

Leaves can be disposed of in a number of ways. You can compost them, use them as mulch, or simply bag them up and take them to the dump.

Composting leaves is a great way to recycle them and turn them into nutrient-rich soil for your garden. To compost leaves, you will need a compost bin and some organic matter, such as food scraps or manure. Add the leaves to the compost bin, along with the organic matter, and allow them to decompose. This will take a few months, but in the end, you will have nutrient-rich soil that you can use in your garden.

Another option for disposing of leaves is to use them as mulch. Mulching leaves around your plants helps keep the soil moist and prevents weed growth. It also adds nutrients to the soil over time. To mulch leaves, simply spread them around your plants and water them well.

If you don’t want to compost or mulch your leaves, you can always bag them up and take them to the dump. Be sure to tie the bags securely so that they don’t fall apart on the way.

Relax Around a Fire Pit

After a long day of raking leaves, there’s nothing better than winding down around a cozy fire pit. The best part is that you can easily make your own fire pit with just a few supplies.

All you need are some bricks or rocks to use as a border. Arrange the stone in a circle at in the center of your desired seating area and rake the grass out of the circle. Place some sand or dirt as a base.

Then, gather some sticks and logs to use as fuel for the fire. Be sure to keep a bucket of water or sand nearby to extinguish the flames if necessary.

Once your fire pit is all set up, you can relax and enjoy the warmth of the fire. Snuggle up with a loved one, roast some s’mores, or simply listen to the crackling flames. Spending time around a fire pit is a great way to relax and unwind after a long day.

Fall is such a wonderful time of year. There’s so much to do and see, and the smells are just amazing. There are so many things you can do to get your home ready for fall. Just use your imagination and have fun with it! I hope you take some time to enjoy all that fall has to offer.

I love it when fall finally comes around again. It’s my favorite time of year. I just wear flannel all the time and eat chili and soup.

Pumpkin cookies are a must this time of year! And I am fortunate to not have to worry about the disposing of leaves- here on the Gulf Coast, we don’t really have a fall season, and what few trees do lose leaves, it doesn’t happen until late December/January.
